If 64 to 75% of people in the United States believe that heaven exists and most are confident they will personally make it. Very few people believe they are headed to hell according to Pew Research.
Now, let’s think about this mindset compared to the Word of God.
Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But, small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life and only a few find it. Matthew 7:13-14
Consider that a severe warning! If only a few find the road to heaven, most will think they are ok but they are not ok. We need to be sure of our final destination. There is no more important question or warning we will ever face.
28% of the population believes that God does not exist or there is no attempt to please God. That means that roughly 1 out of 4 do not think that there will be any consequence for ignoring God. If the Bible is true, the warning is to listen to God and repent and to turn to belief in Jesus Christ is needed by the vast majority of America and the world. God does not want any person to go to hell. He died to save us from going there. He loves us and gave up His life to give us eternal life. All who are going to heaven have their names written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. How do you know if your name is there or not? God wants you to know the peace of having freedom from eternal death. Do you know that there is an eternal second death? Anyone not born again by faith in Jesus Christ will suffer the second death.
Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:14
There are no second chances after death. We have free will now, we have the power of choice now. We are invited by God to turn from sin and accept the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross in our place now. He died for sinners (all of us are in that category without Christ) to save us from the second death. The final judgment of all unbelievers in Christ is called The Great White Throne Judgment. Believers will be judged for rewards at what is referred to as the Bema Seat Judgment.
Our decision to believe or not believe will determine where we will be judged. The love of God is what gives us that choice! That is a generous invitation.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son so that whoever believes in Him would not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
