What if we learned to forgive whatever hurts, abuse, failures and sins in general that were ever committed against us?
What would that look like? How would that change you? How would that change our world?
It would make you more like Christ for one thing. He came to demonstrate forgiveness to us through His death on the cross.
He was teaching us how to die to sin right along with Him. We need His example to place our faith in and follow often in spite of our feelings.
Easier said than done! It’s not easy to be a true Christian. In fact, it is impossible to truly forgive without the power of God.
Forgiveness has so many deep and complicated parts to it that many, many teachings can be given on this cardinal doctrine of Christianity.
Consider memorizing these verses from Peter below, it will change your life. Are Christians unloving or unforgiving? Not if they follow Christ’s example.
Finally, listen to Lisa Terkeurst in the video below, she can help you think on this topic in such a way that we all can be more like Christ.
To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. “He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.” When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.” For “you were like sheep going astray,” but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. 1 Peter 2:21-25
