This Friday is Good Friday, a most incredibly important day that we must understand to know who God truy is and what He has done for us.
This Holy Week as you meditate on the meaning of Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday and Good Friday, think on how you are loved.
Suggestion: Memorize this verse and meditate on it all week:
But God demonstrates His love for us in this, while we were still sinners Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8
How can Good Friday be good? After all, that’s the day we remember Jesus’ death on the cross.
Good Friday is good because it represents the gift of Jesus Christ as the perfect sacrifice for our sins.
But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation. (Romans 5:8–9)
We may think we need to do something to earn eternal life, but that is not God’s way. We receive everlasting life simply by trusting in Christ.
A Divine Exchange
Only good people go to heaven, but only God is good. Our sins must be removed for us to be good in God’s sight. Christ, who is perfect, paid the penalty for our sins on Good Friday. Good Friday is about a divine exchange: We give Christ our sins and He gives us His goodness.
For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
Accept God’s Gift
No matter what you may have done in the past, God loves you—and He is holding the gift of forgiveness and eternal life out to you. Are you ready? Reach out to receive your gift. Talk to God. Ask His forgiveness and tell Him you want to follow Jesus. He will welcome you with open arms.
