Do you have peace in your heart about your future with God? There is no reason why you should not have what is known as the Blessed Assurance.
There are three kinds of people in this world.
1. Atheists
First are those who do not believe in God at all for whatever reason. This number has increased from 25% to 44% in the past 10 years in America. That is a scary number. This group has decided to forget about God and live according to whatever they think is best for them. God loves each and every one of these folks. He died for them (Romans 5:8). God seeks to save every person who has decided to give up on Him. The Prodigal Son is a good example of the unconditional love of God provided by Jesus. God loves the world! John 3:16 For God so loves the world that He sent His only Son so that whoever believes in Him would not perish but have eternal life. He wants all unbelievers to become believers.
2. Religious
Second, there are those who believe that God loves them according to their behavior or experience. In other words, God’s love is conditional. Believing that God’s love must be earned somehow is just the opposite of what God desires. Yes, He wants us to be good but our goodness comes as a gift from Him not from anything we deserve from Him, The Blessed Assurance is God’s offer to help us see that it is not by works that we receive His approval rather it is by faith in Christ’s works on our behalf that saves us. We put no confidence in the flesh (our good works) rather on Christ (His Perfect Works).
3. Saved Believers
All who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ for salvation have been perfectly forgiven for all their sins. That is a gift given to those who trust in Christ for the payment for their sins. When this happens, believers are born again into a new creation by the power of God. They go from separation to union with God much like a bride united to her husband as One Flesh. Those living in #1 and #2 above are living under the law and they are not saved. Those living by faith are not under the law anymore. (Galatians 5:18).
I tell you the truth, whoever hears my words and believes in Him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned. He has crossed over from death to life. John 5:24
How do you know that you are saved? An excellent video titled “Can You Lose Your Salvation?” by Kirk Cameron can help. He describes all unbelievers as GOATS and all believers as SHEEP. This distinction comes from Matthew 25:32.
