Christian Political Division

God does not see America in terms of party affiliation.

How could anyone call themselves a Christian and be a Democrat? How could anyone call themselves a Christian and be a MAGA Republican?

Do you think along these lines or do you know people who do? To the degree that such beliefs are real within the church of Christ, there is a division that is not pleasing to God. The core issue is the correct definition of what or who is a Christian? Belief in Christ alone by faith alone through grace alone is sufficient for salvation. The bottom line is the reality of being “born again” or not. You must be born again to enter the kingdom of heaven. Watch the video and read this link: https://www.gotquestions.org/born-again.html

Jesus replied, “Verily truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again”. John 3:3

Affiliation with any political party does not have any determination of who is a Christian and who is not. If someone does teach or promote such a belief, it is a serious and heretical addition to the Word of God. If we allow such thinking to permeate the church, it will cause division. Christ came into the world to call out Christians to become His church. That church is His invisible Body that supersedes all human organizations including all denominations. No church denomination has any exclusive claim on Christianity. Born again believers are within all mainline and independent Protestant churches and within the Catholic churches (Roman and Greek). There is only ONE BODY OF CHRIST.

Jesus prayed in John 17:20-23 for UNITY that who are truly Christians will be ONE.

“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one- I in them and you in me – so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”

It is true that members of both the Democratic and Republican parties are not Christian but that is not an automatic indicator any more than membership in any goodwill or political or religious organization. Only God knows who is a Christian and who is not. Let us not fall into the trap of writing off a political party simply because we do not agree with their policies or their leaders.
