The Message

Charge the Sin to Me

What if all the sins you ever committed in the past and all the sins you will commit in the future are placed on Jesus Christ instead of you?

That is exactly what happened when Christ sacrificed His life on the cross for your sins and the sins of the world. He died for you personally and made one full payment once and for all for all sins for all time. The Sacrifice was perfect and that is why no future sacrifices including yours and mine cannot add to or improve upon what Christ has already done. Our sins are Paid in Full. We owe a debt we cannot pay and He paid a debt He did not owe. The payment was His Blood.

Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sin (Hebrews 9:22).

The Hebrews understood this well. A lamb was sacrificed in Egypt at the Exodus to enable the Passover. The blood on the doorpost of the house saved those inside from the angel of death who killed all without the blood. That lamb symbolized the ultimate Lamb, Jesus Christ. All who believe place His Blood on the doorposts of their hearts and are saved from death.

Sin must be paid for. God in His perfect justice will not overlook our sins. He judges sin with the death penalty. Now, the obvious question is this.

Will we refuse or accept the payment of our sins offered by Christ in our place as the Lamb of God. We must choose.

We have been forgiven so much that it is called Amazing Grace. This payment was not something we deserved or earned. This payment is a GIFT that  can only be received by faith in the finished work of Christ. See Forgiven Forever for the best teaching on this payment in full!

What inspired the title of this message? Philemon verse 18 shown below. Paul modeled the perfect forgiveness of Christ by exhorting the church to charge all of Philemon’s sins to himself.

That is a picture of total forgiveness. Have you received the total forgiveness of God and have you given forgiveness to all who have sinned against you?

Welcome him as you would welcome me. If he has done you any wrong or owes you anything, charge it to me.
