What Does God Require?

Jesus taught us to pray “thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven”. What is the will of God? Do you know God’s will for your life?

For many, the answer is “I don’t know” or “I hope God is ok with me” or “I’m doing my best and that’s all I can do”.

Others are placing their confidence in being good enough for God through religion. “I do this to try to be good enough for God”.

“Good enough” may be a religious lifestyle that includes good behavior that is hoped to outweigh bad behavior.

Will God be measuring our acceptance by weighing good works vs bad works and we just hope the good is good enough to satisfy God’s requirements?

We should be greatly relieved to know that no matter how much good we do, it will never meet God’s requirements. We cannot possibly satisfy God through human effort. God requires perfection and none of us can claim to be perfect except God Himself revealed to us in the Person of Jesus Christ.

Our problem as a human race is SIN. God cannot allow any sin whatsoever. Since we all sin and since we all are far from perfect, how can we possibly please God?

Through faith in the perfect, sinless life of Christ, God sees us IN CHRIST when we place our faith in Christ for the forgiveness of our sins.

He who knew no sin became sin so that through faith in Him we can receive the righteousness and perfection of God (2 Corinthians 5:17).

God wants us to receive forgiveness as a GIFT not anything that we deserve. At the cross, we give our sins to Christ and by faith the perfection of Christ is given to us.

That divine exchange is “Amazing Grace”. God gives us full and complete pardon for all of our sins once and for all when we trust in Christ’s payment for our sins.

Without Christ, we remain in sin and will not meet the requirements of God. The choice is ours to believe and trust in Christ 100% or we inevitably trust in ourselves

while retaining our sins. The decision by God to give us this undeserved, unmerited, unworthy opportunity is our most precious Gift of Eternal Life. We are saved from dying in our sins.

All God requires is that we trust in Christ. But, that Way is narrow. Jesus told us “broad is the way to destruction” (Matthew 7:13-14).

The broad way is any way other than Christ. There is no forgiveness of sin apart from Jesus Christ and the cross. Sin is breaking the law. All of us have broken the law therefore we need forgiveness for our sins. Are you ready to come to the cross and trust in Christ? Visit Next Steps for more help in making that decision.
